Coordination of Benefits


Employees with coverage through their spouse can also coordinate their benefits (all eligible family members are covered under both plans). Coordination of benefits between spouses is administered as follows:

  • Employee claims - Submit through the CPAIPW group benefits plan and then submit any unpaid remainder to the other spouse's plan.

  • Spouse claims - Submit through their own employer plan and then submit any unpaid remainder to the CPAIPW group benefits plan

  • Dependent child claims - Submit through the plan of the parent whose birthday month occurs first in the calendar year. Submit any unpaid remainder to the other spouse's benefits plan.
